I had an 8 year old kid in the sedation suite a few days ago who had moderate autism, but was so irritable from being NPO that he was thrashing and screaming nonstop while waiting for his scan. No one wanted to try to hold him down twice for his IV, so we were just holding him in the room with his family and were going to start the IV on the table when we were ready. Anyway, I went in and spoke his name loudly, turned on Buzzy, and said "this is something that can make kids feel better. Hold it against your tummy." He immediately quit screaming, reached for it (I said "It's wiggly, hold it carefully", and placed it against his belly. He clicked it on and off, contented, for about 5 minutes. He got tired of it, but was less vocal, and I gave his parents the Bee-Stractors and that got him through the last 5 minutes of waiting. Everyone was amazed. He then was calm, and got his IV without flinching. Wild.....
