Finger Sticks

images

"Our young daughter has type 1 diabetes and this product is the only thing we have found that works. We are so happy with it!" Rebecca W.

Fingerstick pain is one of the least pleasant parts of diabetes and other medical condiditions where quick blood hemoglobin checks are required.  When children are diagnosed, their fear of needles is rarely addressed.  Finger stick pain persists to adulthood, and impacts how compliant and well controlled diabetes treatment is. Unfortunately, none of the available topical numbing agents works with the thick but sensitive skin on the finger.  Through vibration and cold, Buzzy is able to distract nerves during a fingerstick to make them much less sensitive.  First, place the pack from the freezer behind Buzzy.  You can see one of the disposable white Ice Wings here.  Turn on Buzzy and press the base of the bee to the joint where the finger meets the palm.  The nerves of the finger pass here, and vibration is transmitted more strongly than just putting Buzzy right next to the fingertip.  There are more nerves on the pad than on the sides, so stick on the side of the finger.  For best numbing, wait about 30 seconds before poking.

We hope that having Buzzy will help make kids with newly diagnosed conditions a little more compliant, and may make the situation a bit more bearable.
