From a mom of a child with autism

I wanted to let you know how it went with B: relatively well, overall. I let him and MC look at the bag and everything in it in the car. MC had been watching the videos with me today, so she knew what it was for. But that didn’t seem to be a problem. We practiced putting it on their arms, and it made Blaise laugh (must have tickled). Anyway, when the time came, we did a practice run on MC, and that was fine, and then we sat B down. Despite my best efforts with the distraction cards, he saw the needle and freaked. But I held my arm around him with the Buzzy, and we got the shot in, and I honestly don’t think it hurt much. He cried afterward, but in that sort of melodramatic way (he kept looking in the mirror!) that didn’t last long (over within 2-3 minutes). Previously, he would have been in hysterics for half an hour. Oh, and the most interesting part of the kit for him? The Kazoo! Who’d have guessed?

So, I think I will keep this one and get a new one for my sister. (The whole kit, I think: Buzzie, bag, Flippits)  I will not inconvenience you so much the next time—I really appreciate you accommodating me on such short notice!

Oh, and one more thing—there was a nurse supervisor there who saw the Buzzy and was interested, so I gave her the business card that was in it. I think I will have to get a stack of those from you to hand out!
