For Injections

"I used the Buzzy on an 11 year old boy with Autism today and he loved it! He placed it on his own arm and the high light was the information I gave the family with a picture of the Buzzy on it. He was so excited for the photo that he didn't want to pick anything out of our "Good Job" box of toys!"  -Kelly B, RN

"This has helped Liele out so much with her blood tests and injections...Great item!"  Michelle H.

"On September 17. 2003 I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. in October, 2003 I started on a disease modifing drug for my multiple sclerosis REBIF injections 3 times a week.earlier this year 2011 I received my BUZZY as a gift from one of my closest friends.  The BUZZY really works as it claims to! I love it!I never injected my REBIF in my arm until i got my BUZZY! about a year or so ago i had read about BUZZY in a magazine while waiting to get a manicure. i made a mental note about it and then stephanie got one for me! she did not know that I knew of BUZZY prior.I just wanted to let you know what a great product BUZZY is!thank you. Lisa Jo Castagnola
I am a 59 year old grandmother of 5 and am terrified of needles. (Had natural childbirth with both my sons mainly to keep from having a shot.)  I heard about Buzzy, got one last fall and had my first flu vaccine ever.  It was truly amazing as I felt nothing.  Buzzy is definitely one of the greatest inventions ever!

"Dear Ashli Romeyn, Thanks to yourself, Dr.Baxter and anyone else involved in getting me the Buzzy for my granddaughter.  Katie herself likes Buzzy, keeps it switched for about 15 minutes after the injections then wears it till bedtime. She will not let the nurses take it off to have a look at it, says it's her Buzzy and they can look at it but not touch.  The hospital are currently Etanercept as nothing else has so far worked except the steroids and they can't keep her on these for too long, and the arthritis has spread to her knees and she's complaining of a sore back. ...  I'm sorry the nurses are not getting to play with Buzzy and have a good look at him but Katie might let them touch him eventually,  Yours, Jennifer P."

"Today I used Buzzy on myself with the frozen wings for an Imitrex shot.  I HATE Imitrex bc it burns like fire.  Buzzy made it 10x better.  I actually laid in bed suffering for 4 hours with the migraine bc I hate the shot so bad.  It's not the needle. It's the fire medicine. LOL.  Buzzy is the bomb."  - Sarah H, RN

I want to give you some feedback on your wonderful product. Our daughter is 8 years old and has had type 1 diabetes since age 3. She has lived through about 6 shots per day for the past 5 years. That's over 10,000 shots so far!!!!
Needless to say we are quite familiar with needles at our house. Yet she "hates" Lantus shots because the medicine really stings from its acidity and she has never let us give her an injection in her stomach because she was too afraid.  Welcome Buzzy! Last night was the first time we tried it for Lantus and she kissed Buzzy after her shot and said "God bless you". Today she let us give her injection in her stomach for the first time and she said it didn't hurt!
We are very happy that Buzzy is here. Kids that endure daily shots will appreciate Buzzy b/c it is a. cute and b. someone who is there to help them.
Thanks for helping ease pain. I hope every kid with diabetes gets one. We will take it with us to our next endo appt and show the doctors and take Buzzy to the dreaded blood draws.  May I suggest that you include them in the JDRF "Bag of Hope" along with the Rufus teddy bear (a bear that has patches where children get injections). I think the combination would be a real home run!
Thank you!
Sincerely,  Dr. Jennifer M.

"We have used Buzzy for my son who has a chronic illness and was really suffering from needle-phobia. The Royal Children's Hospital pain-management nurse Lisa Takas had a Buzzy and shared him , and Buzzy has turned everything around for him! Buzzy has been such a god-send and we cannot sing its praises enough. Buzzy rules!  Many thanks,
-Michelle Cleary

As our Granddaughter could not wait until the weekend to see us and get Buzzy, our daughter has brought her up here. She is so pleased with Buzzy she asked to give you a big thank you. Hopefully the novelty will wear off with the Kazoo but as long as she is happy that all that counts.

Carlie

Amelia

"After months of searching for a way of making daily injections less stressful and painful for our young daughter with type 1 diabetes we eventually found the answer with Buzzy. Amelia uses Buzzy every day and wont Bee without it. The difference it makes is amazing."  Beccy, mother of Amelia.

Buzzy is a topic of conversation in our home. My 5 year old Giuliana Sofia has asked to use Buzzy when she feels sad, or when she needs to feel safe and reassured that Mommy will be home soon. We have brought Buzzy to her Kindergarten Physical, and we did use Buzzy for the shots. After that Buzzy comes up here and there! WE LOVE BUZZY! Thank you , Dr. Baxter!

- Dea Viola, The Baby Flamingo Co.

We have just had our second successful blood test using Buzzy . . .  so happy the investment was so worth it!
We went from screaming and held down to "I never felt that" - totally recommend!

- Diane H., mother in search of a cure for Crohn's disease

Just a note, we had a 10 year old girl come in this week... new onset diabetes and in DKA.  She was TERRIFIED of the shots/finger pokes, etc...so...Buzzy to the rescue. We ended up leaving it in the room with her so that she could use it even if we weren't the ones poking (lab, etc). It helped with the anticipatory anxiety related to the shots/finger sticks as well as with the needle pain, and having it at the bedside gave her a little bit of control during her stay.
Thanks again for a wonderful tool!

- Jenn Jones, RN

You are certainly to be congratulated for having a product for needle phobic people that has withstood the test of time. Much of my email is from needle phobic patients who are frustrated that they cannot find a doctor who will help them to obtain products to help them with their needle phobia. Buzzy seems to be about the only really effective product for needle phobia that is available without a doctor's authorization.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!  My daughter gets 4 shots (in the fat layer of her arm) every 3 days. We bought the Buzzy kit with the carrier, ice packs, and distraction cards. We have gone from having 1 shot take up to 2 1/2 hours to get in to having 3 shots in less than  5 minutes.

virginia 5 year old buzzy friend

She is MUCH happier, and so am I.  She can still tell most of the shots are going in, but the pain is lessened quite a bit. Using Buzzy has made our shot routine incredibly easy. Thank you.   - Kimberly, Hampton, Va.

"Omg. buzzy just saved the day. Elaine was having a meltdown over her elbow (eczema booboos) and I stuck Buzzy on it and she said it feels better and laughed. she also said "fun".  Thanks so much for something that will help eczema! "

- Valerie S, RN

"Buzzy was awesome for my 3 year old's allergy scratch tests.   I put Buzzy on his spine, and Buzzy completely took away his urge to scratch himself, despite several very positive tests.  His peanut test was stopped at 5 minutes when it was over 1 inch big, with a tail.  It looked like a giant rat.  Yay, Buzzy!"

We have used Buzzy for my son Charlie who has a chronic illness and was really suffering from needle-phobia. The Royal Children's Hospital pain-management nurse Lisa Takas had a Buzzy and shared him with Charlie, and Buzzy has turned everything around for him! Buzzy has been such a god-send and we cannot sing its praises enough. Buzzy rules!
Many thanks,
Michelle C., NSW Australia
My sons were both preemies who were subjected to an immense number of painful procedures in their early years. Both still experience a lot of anxiety just going to the doc and it's ramped up if there are going to be needles involved. Well, I used Buzzy for my younger son’s first (of 2) allergy shots on Monday. He didn’t feel a thing, so he was brave enough to try the second shot without Buzzy. I definitely will use Buzzy for their flu shots and other immunizations.

- Gina L, Atlanta

I was so skeptical about Buzzy. But my 5-year-old daughter was having severe anxiety over getting her weekly shots to combat her juvenile arthritis. We tried using numbing cream at the injection site, but her anxiety would increase as we waited for the cream to work.
So I tried Buzzy this morning for the first time. It WORKED! My daughter said she didn’t feel anything! I can’t even tell you how happy that made me.
I plan on sharing this news with the Arthritis Foundation, and at a juvenile arthritis conference I’ll be attending in a few weeks.
Thank you so much!

I have 4 kids of my own, and my 12 year old, after having 4 shots using Buzzy (some of which are the nasty ones that really burn) informed me, "You are never allowed to poke me with another needle without using Buzzy!" He has had needle phobia since 18 months of age when he had allergy testing (scratch testing) on his back. Now...no worries...and no fighting!  My 7 year old even used the bee-stractor cards to "help" his older sister (14 years old) to be brave during her immunizations this winter. I wish we had a video camera during that experience! I even tried it out for my flu shot...just so that I could tell my patients what it feels like, and it's great! I'm finding that 60 seconds seems to help more with the deeper burn of IM injections than 30 seconds.

My children had to get shots this am—the H1N1 innoculation. My two-year-old was hanging out while the nurse prepped the thing, we put Buzzy on his arm and then his shoulder when he actually got the shot and that was that—not one tear. Which has never happened.
My four-year-old is old enough to be more aware of what’s happening, so she cried at the idea of a shot. But when push came to shove and it was time, we used Buzzy again and she told me afterwards that it didn’t hurt at all. I’m kind of amazed.
Thx, LM
My 10-year old daughter has an overactive vagal response to pain, which means she often faints after hitting her head or getting a shot. This has caused her to have an extreme needle phobia and fear of visiting the doctor. With Buzzy and the distractor kit, she had no pain when she got a swine flu shot last year, in contrast with a fainting spell after she got the regular flu vaccine two weeks before without Buzzy. I’m a fan!

I used Dr. Amy Baxter's invention with my 5 year old son just a couple of days ago when he had to have another blood draw. Let me just say that it's amazing!!! The results were completely different this time around! He was scared of course because he had his blood drawn just a couple weeks ago and was in a lot of pain but this time The Buzzy made a huge difference! I knew it would be a great product when I first saw it about a month ago but had no idea how geat! Way to go Dr. Amy!!!

My daughter (8yrs) has multiple food allergies, and has suffered through yearly skin prick allergy tests since toddlerhood. This typically involveS 10-12 pricks on the inner arm. I ordered Buzzy to use with immunizations, but am wondering of it can help with the scratch tests too. Also, I’m a clinical psychologist, and I am thrilled to see this product on the market – what a great use of science, psychology, and technology to benefit just about everyone.

My children love using Buzzy. Buzzy is not just an ice-pack, combined with the vibrations, it takes the pain away. The Bee-Straction cards are a fabulous way to keep your child occupied while waiting for the doctor. If your child is able to “suck it up”, great, but there are many who can’t. I fully recommend Buzzy.

From a mom of a child with autism.

I wanted to let you know how it went with B: relatively well, overall. I let him and MC look at the bag and everything in it in the car. MC had been watching the videos with me today, so she knew what it was for. But that didn’t seem to be a problem. We practiced putting it on their arms, and it made Blaise laugh (must have tickled). Anyway, when the time came, we did a practice run on MC, and that was fine, and then we sat B down. Despite my best efforts with the distraction cards, he saw the needle and freaked. But I held my arm around him with the Buzzy, and we got the shot in, and I honestly don’t think it hurt much. He cried afterward, but in that sort of melodramatic way (he kept looking in the mirror!) that didn’t last long (over within 2-3 minutes). Previously, he would have been in hysterics for half an hour. Oh, and the most interesting part of the kit for him? The Kazoo! Who’d have guessed?
So, I think I will keep this one and get a new one for my sister. (The whole kit, I think: Buzzie, bag, Flippits)  I will not inconvenience you so much the next time—I really appreciate you accommodating me on such short notice!
Oh, and one more thing—there was a nurse supervisor there who saw the Buzzy and was interested, so I gave her the business card that was in it. I think I will have to get a stack of those from you to hand out!

My 5 year old daughter is in a diabetes-related study, and gets her blood drawn every quarter. They use Buzzy there and I was intrigued, so I got one for home. So far, in addition to the run-of-the-mill vaccines (which she doesn’t really have a problem with, but she likes the distraction cards a lot), we’ve successfully used it for some pretty mean splinter extractions from various locations all over her body, ranging from the meaty part of her palm to her toes.

For Professionals!

"Our VP of Finance even referenced Buzzy when he was presenting in a management meeting.  The subject of flu shots came up and he said he needed the "bee with the cold wings" to help him get through the shot." - U of Maryland

You are an answer to prayer!
I just ordered Buzzy and will take to him (Duluth, GA) asap.

Teenage needle fear, didn't feel either injection!

We had a teenager who had not had a physical for years because she is so afraid of needles and has been most of her life. Of course as a teen now she only remembers that she had to be held down to have any injections when she was little which does not help.

She came the other day and was cooperative but scared to death and crying. As soon as I told her about buzzy she immediately stopped crying. She believed it would work and trusted me when I told her it would. I left it on about 5 minutes and gave 2 injections in the left deltoid while mom held Buzzy on the shoulder and she looked at the card to find the hidden pictures.

I loved it for IV'sbecause it doesn't constrict the veins down like cold spray but it gives the analgesic effect kids need. I don't have 30 minutes to wait for Elamax.
My daughter’s pediatrician, Dr. Livingood, in Norfolk, VA told me about Buzzy Bee and my 15-year old daughter was excited to find out that it worked for her yesterday. We all avoid getting needed tests because of fear of intravenous needles. Thank you for inventing such a great product.

I had the delightful experience of trying out Buzzy for the first time this morning. We tried him out in our outpaitent clinic, for immunizations during well-child visits. I used Buzzy along with usual child life distractions for 17 injections, on ages 18 months to 11 years old. Out of those 17 shots, 1 was rated as “worse”, 3 as “the same” and 13 as “better” than the patient’s usual experience with shots. The nurses loved it! I even had an 8 year old tell me “I didn’t even feel it!"

Thanks, Dr. Amy. Kristina M. Brunn, Certified Child Life Specialist

I attended the Child Life conference last year in Phoenix and purchased one for my family to use. After trying it out on my kids, and finding out that it works wonderfully, we purchased one for our Pediatric Unit. On our unit we do after hours infusions and injections. I had an adult patient who was having issues with the "burn" from Lovenox injections. I offered him the Buzzy, and he loved it. Every night that he came back for his shot, he requested it.
Dr. Baxter,
My 79 year old dad has always had WILD fear of needles. He was diagnosed with end stage renal disease and must have 3 rounds of 3-hour dialysis each week. He has been thinking of quitting the sessions…of course, that means losing him.
I’ve googled, asked doctors, asked GA Kidney Fdn folks, etc. about how to deal with fear of needles so dad can choose to continue dialysis. He went to a hypnotherapist to plant “happy thoughts” about needles. Nothing has really worked. I know my dad is not only adult/child fearing dialysis due to needles. I’d enjoy buying you cup of coffee/lunch/whatever to thank you in person for Buzzy. I  would be happy to volunteer/help you promote Buzzy…so that everyone can be stress free with needles.

I just used it for laser hair removal at the dermatologist’s office – legs, bikini, underarms – it really helped, especially at the painful ankle/lower leg area!

Hi!
I work for Dr. T as a nurse in her pediatric practice and I love Buzzy.
She did not feel either injection. She felt the second needle as I withdrew it and she was so nervous and in shock that she laughed. She kept saying " thank you, thank you",over and over and she was truly relieved. She went and scheduled her physical even tho she needs another injection, she said she is not afraid of it now. The look on her face was of such relief it makes me cry even now thinking of how genuine it was.

I purchased the Buzzy to include in my lecture on pain management for the pediatric population with nursing students. Having them visually see the device, show one of your short videos and introduce how you integrate development, distraction and gate control theory into your pain management approach is a very successful classroom presentation and discussion. Hopefully the word of Buzzy will move into healthcare settings as our students graduate.

Doctor's Offices!

Thank you,
Following this success, the head nurse is ordering a full set for the office, one Buzzy for each of four pods, and as many extra blue reusable wings as she can get on her budget. Her name is Dina Aman, so watch for an order from her. Once the new Buzzies arrive, I’ll be presenting a 30 minutes in-service to all the staff. I’d like to share info on:
Thanks for this fabulous product. I am so excited to bring this my hospital. All of our pediatric areas are “a buzz” with the news. Residents and nurses keep stopping me in the hall “what is this Buzzy thing I keep hearing about? When do we get it here? Can I use it for my flu shot?”

Hospitals!

Buzzy has been an amazing addition to our hospital. He sparks interest of staff who haven’t used him before when they see him. I use him for almost every IV we do on my floor. The children love him and I have even had an adult request him. The nurses on my floor love how big he makes the patients veins. Even our IV team requests Buzzy now, they do not even like to use “Freezy Spray”. I have not had one complaint about Buzzy, only requests for him.

Emergency departments!

Love the buzzy – we have been using in our Springfield ED - We want to do a nursing research project with Buzzy for our ped patients – can you recomend any literture or studies you have done. The kids love buzzy and we know it works great!
