Diabetes Resources

Being diagnosed with diabetes is overwhelming.  When someone really doesn't care for needles in the first place, new onset diabetes can seem tragic.  Even children with diabetes who get used to shots can find going to the doctor for IV access to be tough. Don't despair!  This page will give some great Child Life recommended links, tips on how to use Buzzy, as well as some feedback from some of our families.

For adults on the cusp of needing to switch from oral medications to injections, our plain black executive Buzz can help the transition.  Teens can kick it up a notch with the jazzy BuzzDudes (rock star or Mexican wrestler, anyone?)

Fun facts: our first thank-you letter ever was from a child using Buzzy for diabetes, and okidsbuzzytyfrontur distributor in the UK decided to expand her business and carry Buzzy because it helped her daughter so much.

Scroll to the end for some LOVELY age-sorted links to diabetes resources, with pages covering everything from new onset diabetes to eating out to WHY ME?!?!?!

BUZZY:

For fingerstick pain, adults can use the hands-free strap to keep Buzzy on the palm.  We've found that pressing Buzzy's bottom end on the joint where the finger connects seems to work best.  For children, we have a whole fingerstick page devoted to this.fingerstick

"I want to give you some feedback on your wonderful product. Our daughter is 8 years old and has had type 1 diabetes since age 3. She has lived through about 6 shots per day for the past 5 years. That's over 10,000 shots so far!!!!  Needless to say we are quite familiar with needles at our house. Yet she "hates" Lantus shots because the medicine really stings from its acidity and she has never let us give her an injection in her stomach because she was too afraid.  Welcome Buzzy! Last night was the first time we tried it for Lantus and she kissed Buzzy after her shot and said "God bless you". Today she let us give her injection in her stomach for the first time and she said it didn't hurt!

We are very happy that Buzzy is here. Kids that endure daily shots will appreciate Buzzy b/c it is a. cute and b. someone who is there to help them.  Thanks for helping ease pain. I hope every kid with diabetes gets one. We will take it with us to our next endo appt and show the doctors and take Buzzy to the dreaded blood draws."  Sincerely,  Dr. Jennifer M.Carlie
 Hello, Dr. Amy-
Lovely to hear from you. Firstly, we really do appreciate all your help in purchasing Buzzy.  Carlie is type 1 diabetic, she was diagnosed when she was 18 months old. She is currently having 5 injections per day.  She is due to have the pump fitted shortly which will certainly be better for her but she will have to have the canula changed every 3 days so Buzzy will certainly help.  She is so pleased with Buzzy she asked to give you a big thank you.  Hopefully the novelty will wear off with the Kazoo but as long as she is happy that all that counts.  Our daughter also asked us to thank you for making Carlie so happy.  Please keep up the good work."
self injectionFor injections, Buzzy needs to be "between the brain and the pain".  In the arms, the nerves run straight down, but for tummies they run sideways coming around from the back towards the belly button.  StomachIn the diagram, you'd put a shot close to Buzzy's bottom between Buzzy on the "T10/T11) line.
